Like a Flame

The sun came out for just a few minutes late this afternoon after a chilly, dreary day. The low slant of the light really makes this maple seem to glow.

I kind of doubt that the sheep appreciate such sights the way we do, but with cool temps and no bugs, nice grass and no rain they had a nice day by their standards, too.

Life is better if you can find at least one thing a day to put in the 'win' column ;-).

On dreary days I envy the sheep and their lovely fleece! The tree is beautiful, a marvel of light! Keep warm and stay safe!

At Nistock Farms we're Knee Deep in Sheep

I'm frequently reminded by my dear husband that when we got married in 1990 and I brought my little flock of fiber sheep to the family farm, they were supposed to be "just for me, you know, to spin with and be pets". Over the years circumstances changed, as circumstances do, and the flock has evolved to nearly 100 ewes and rams (not counting lambs), and taken over the big dairy barn. We work hard for them and they work hard for us. We have a widely varied handspinning flock including white, black and moorit crossbreds of Border Leicester, Romney, Finn, Rambouillet and CVM, and our wonderful purebred heritage breed, Cotswolds. We raise our own corn and oats, bale the hay and straw, cut mountains of firewood for the house and workshops, can and preserve, stretch fence, dig ditches, pour concrete, build stuff, plant crops, do plumbing, wiring, welding, and anything else that needs doing. We're born and bred Farmers. You never know what the heck is gonna happen......
