Happy Mother's Day!

What lovely weather we had today - perfect for getting Mom out of the house and having something good to eat. Here's hoping moms everywhere were as happy as our ewes today. We let them in to the Baby Pasture for the first time this spring. (If the flock looks small it's because the unbred ewes haven't been integrated back in yet - hopefully in the next few days when time allows for some hoof trimming).

Peanut and I got to enjoy a little time outside in the sunshine. What a treat!

Every day is mother's day when someone loves you. :-)

Love the videos and all that lush green grass, all I have left are brown pastures and a lot of dirt.

At Nistock Farms we're Knee Deep in Sheep

I'm frequently reminded by my dear husband that when we got married in 1990 and I brought my little flock of fiber sheep to the family farm, they were supposed to be "just for me, you know, to spin with and be pets". Over the years circumstances changed, as circumstances do, and the flock has evolved to nearly 100 ewes and rams (not counting lambs), and taken over the big dairy barn. We work hard for them and they work hard for us. We have a widely varied handspinning flock including white, black and moorit crossbreds of Border Leicester, Romney, Finn, Rambouillet and CVM, and our wonderful purebred heritage breed, Cotswolds. We raise our own corn and oats, bale the hay and straw, cut mountains of firewood for the house and workshops, can and preserve, stretch fence, dig ditches, pour concrete, build stuff, plant crops, do plumbing, wiring, welding, and anything else that needs doing. We're born and bred Farmers. You never know what the heck is gonna happen......
